YES Prosperity Cashback Credit Card

Entry levelFee variesCashbackFuel

The YES Prosperity Cashback was the ₹999 base of YES Bank's Prosperity cashback line — a simpler, cheaper sibling of the ₹1,499 Prosperity Cashback Plus. It pays 5% cashback on groceries, movie tickets and utility bill payments, and 0.5% on other retail spends (fuel excluded). The important limits are the caps: TWO separate ₹100-per-cycle ceilings — one on the grocery-and-movie 5% (transactions over ₹500; smaller ones earn the 0.5% base) and another on the utility 5%, which also needs an auto-pay standing instruction registered with YES Bank. Bills paid manually earn only the 0.5% base capped at ₹750 a cycle, and utility spends over ₹15,000 a cycle earn nothing at all — so the 5% is a small, bounded top-up rather than a big earner. It adds a 1% fuel surcharge waiver, and per YES Bank's MITC the ₹999 annual fee is NOT waivable on spend. YES Bank has now closed the card to new customers: its product page states that issuance for new customers has been discontinued, and that existing cardholders will be issued a new card on expiry. So this page is a reference for holders, not an application route.

✕ Cons

  • Closed to new customers — YES Bank has discontinued issuance
  • Cashback capped at ₹100 per statement cycle in each 5% bucket — about ₹200 a month at the very best
  • The utility 5% needs an auto-pay standing instruction, and utility spends over ₹15,000 a cycle earn nothing
  • Annual fee of ₹999 is NOT waivable on spend (per YES Bank MITC)
  • YES Bank levies a 1% + GST transaction fee on utility spends once they cross ₹25,000 in the previous month, and on individual fuel transactions above ₹10,000
  • 0.5% base rate on non-bonus spends is below average

The concern Closed to new customers — and even for holders, cashback is capped at ₹100 per statement cycle in each 5% bucket (about ₹200 a month at the very best) against a ₹999 fee that is not waivable on spend, so the card barely clears its own cost.

The bottom line

The base Prosperity Cashback provided targeted 5% statement credits across groceries, cinema tickets, and automated utility bills, but was heavily constrained by structural caps. Independent ₹100 monthly ceilings across categories restricted total annual upside to at most ₹2,400, while the baseline 0.5% earn rate remained sluggish. Compounding this, the non-waivable ₹999 fee (plus taxes) left minimal net profit even for cardholders who maxed out both category allowances every billing cycle. Because YES Bank has formally discontinued new card issuances—maintaining existing accounts purely on a renewal-at-expiry basis—consumers seeking high-yield utility and grocery rewards should pursue modern alternatives such as the [Axis ACE](/cards/axis-ace), which deliver comparable or superior returns without an unyielding fee hurdle.
