Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank Credit Card

PremiumFee variesTravel

The Tata Neu Infinity HDFC is the premium Tata-ecosystem card: 5% NeuCoins on Tata Neu and partner Tata brands (BigBasket, Croma, Tata CLiQ, 1mg, Air India) and 1.5% on non-Tata spends. The "up to 10%" headline is the card's 5% plus, per HDFC's terms, an additional up to 5% via NeuPass on selected Tata Neu categories — an "up to" rate that depends on your NeuPass standing, not a flat 5% on everything. Insurance premium payments (LIC and others) via Tata Neu app bill-pay earn the base 1.5% rate — not the 5% Tata-brand rate — capped at 2,000 NeuCoins/month (~₹1.33 lakh of premium). Merchant/brand/aggregator EMI earns the base 1.5% on principal (only SmartEMI/Dial-an-EMI earn nothing). NeuCoins can't be redeemed on Bill Payment, and the Tata Neu app may add a convenience fee at checkout, so routing bills through the app for rewards rarely pays off. UPI earning was curtailed in August 2024 — you get 1.5% only on the Tata Neu UPI ID and 0.5% on other UPI, capped 500 NeuCoins/month. The ₹1,499 fee waives at ₹3 lakh, with a 1,499-NeuCoin welcome benefit. Domestic lounge access has been milestone-gated since 10 June 2025 (2/quarter on ₹50,000 of prior-quarter spend, up to 8/year) plus 4 international visits. NeuCoins are valid 12 months from the end of the credit month and are usable only across the Tata ecosystem.

Should you get it?

Mid tier — a solid all-rounder for steady monthly spend.

Strongest value if you spend heavily on Online Shopping ( 5% back).

Frequent travellers benefit from the included airport lounge access.

✓ Pros

  • 5% NeuCoins on the entire Tata ecosystem — BigBasket, Croma, Tata 1mg, Air India, Tata CLiQ
  • NeuCoins redeem at ₹1 each — the most transparent reward currency in India
  • RuPay UPI-linked for everyday digital payments
  • Free NeuPass membership adds up to 5% NeuCoins on selected Tata Neu categories, on top of the card's 5%
  • Tata Neu super-app gives a unified wallet — one redemption portal for everything Tata

✕ Cons

  • NeuCoins locked to Tata ecosystem — useless without regular Tata brand usage
  • Non-Tata spend earns 1.5% — below HDFC Millennia and SBI Cashback on non-partner spend
  • ₹1,499 annual fee only justifies for ₹2,500+/month Tata ecosystem spenders
  • "Up to 10%" is an up-to rate on selected categories via NeuPass — everyday spend earns well under 10%
  • Insurance/utility/telecom earn only the base 1.5% (not 5%); NeuCoins can't be redeemed on Bill Payment
  • Grocery, utility, telecom and insurance are each capped at 2,000 NeuCoins a month
  • Fuel, rent, government payments, wallet and gift-card loads, vouchers and online gaming earn nothing

How to redeem rewards

Ways to convert what you earn into real value.

🎁 Spend NeuCoins 1:1 (₹1 each) across Tata Neu and partner Tata brands (BigBasket, Croma, Air India, 1mg, Westside)

🎁 Use NeuCoins on the Tata Neu app for shopping, travel and bill payments

What your Tata NeuCoins are worth

Realistic value per point by redemption route — the difference is what most people leave on the table.

Tata Neu app & partner brands ₹1 per NeuCoin across Tata brands (BigBasket, Croma, Air India, 1mg, Westside); 12-month expiry, Tata-ecosystem only

₹ 1.00 /pt

The concern Same ecosystem lock-in as Neu Plus at a higher fee — the upgrade math only works for heavy, committed Tata spending.

The bottom line

For consumers deeply engaged with the Tata brand network, the Tata Neu Infinity remains a premier solution, combining 5% back on core Tata platforms with functional RuPay UPI integration. Nonetheless, recent modifications across 2024 and 2025—including UPI reward ceilings, a 12-month expiry on NeuCoins, and spend-linked domestic lounge thresholds—along with brand-restricted redemptions, concentrate its maximum value primarily within Tata ecosystem spending, as external retail earns a modest 1.5%.

2026 1 change — 1 cut

▼ Fee Effective 15 May 2026

Dynamic currency conversion markup raised to 1.75%

1% markup → 1.75% markup

HDFC's MITC: "Dynamic currency conversion Markup Fee: With effect from 15th May 2026, a Markup fee of 1.75% will be levied on all transactions carried out in Indian Currency at an international location or at merchants which are located in India but registered overseas." This is separate from, and stacks on top of, the card's ordinary foreign-currency markup. It is the charge you pay for accepting a terminal's offer to bill you in rupees while abroad - always decline that offer and pay in the local currency. It also catches India-based purchases from merchants registered overseas, which is easy to trigger without leaving the country. The PIXEL MITC dates the same change 17 May 2026.

▼ Redemption Effective 1 Aug 2025

NeuCoins given a 12-month expiry

No fixed expiry (effectively indefinite) → 12 months from end of credit month

From 1 Aug 2025, NeuCoins earned on Tata Neu HDFC cards expire 12 months from the end of the month they are credited (e.g. earned 5 Aug 2025 → valid to 31 Aug 2026); the pre-existing balance was set to expire 31 Jul 2026. This ended indefinite hoarding, forcing earn-and-burn within a year across the Tata ecosystem.

▼ Fee Effective 1 Jul 2025

1% fee added on rent, wallet loads and online gaming

No category surcharge on rent, wallet loads or gaming → 1% on rent (cap Rs 4,999 per transaction); 1% on wallet loads and on online skill-based gaming above Rs 10,000 a calendar month (cap Rs 4,999 a month)

HDFC's MITC: "Rent Pay Transactions: W.e.f. 1st July 2025, 1% fee on transaction amount will be levied on rental transactions... Fee capped at Rs 4999 per transaction"; "Wallet Loading (excl PayZapp) - W.e.f. 1st July 2025, 1% fee will be levied on Wallet loading spends exceeding Rs 10,000 in a calendar month"; "Online Skill based Gaming - W.e.f. 1st July 2025, 1% fee... exceeding Rs 10,000 in a calendar month". These are charges on top of the fact that most HDFC cards already earn zero reward points on the same categories - you pay to spend, and earn nothing for it. PayZapp wallet loads are exempt from the wallet fee.

▼ Fee Effective 1 Jul 2025

1% fee on utilities above Rs 50,000 and on third-party education payments

No surcharge on utility or education payments → 1% on utility spends above Rs 50,000 a calendar month (cap Rs 4,999 a month); 1% on education paid through third-party apps

HDFC's MITC: "Utility Charges: 1% fee will be levied on utility spends exceeding Rs 50,000 per Calendar month for consumer cards... Fee capped at Rs 4999 per month"; "Education Charges: 1% fee... on Education transactions done through third party applications like (but not limited to) CRED, Nobroker, Cheq etc." Paying school or college fees DIRECTLY to the institution is not charged - only routing them through a third-party app is. A 1% fee also applies to fuel transactions above Rs 15,000.

▼ Reward Effective 1 Jul 2025

Insurance NeuCoins cap tightened from daily to monthly

2,000 NeuCoins per day → 2,000 NeuCoins per month

As part of HDFC's 1 Jul 2025 changes, NeuCoins on insurance transactions were capped at 2,000 per calendar month (MobiKwik lists Tata Neu among 'all other cards' at max 2,000 RP/mo), replacing the earlier much looser 2,000-per-day cap. Insurance earns only the base 1.5% rate, so the cap corresponds to ~₹1.33 lakh premium/month.

▼ Reward Effective 1 Jul 2025

Insurance reward points capped, online gaming stops earning

Insurance uncapped on most cards; online skill-based gaming earned points → Insurance capped at 2,000 reward points a month (5,000 on Diners Black, 10,000 on Infinia); online skill-based gaming earns nothing

HDFC's MITC: "With effect from 1st July 2025, Reward Points accrued for insurance transactions will have a maximum cap of... 2000 per month for all other credit cards" and "With effect from 1st July 2025, Online Skill-Based gaming transactions will not earn Reward Points/CashPoints on all the cards." Insurance premiums are a common way to hit a milestone quickly, so the cap matters more than its size suggests.

Online skill-based gaming stops earning NeuCoins

Online skill-based gaming earned NeuCoins → No NeuCoins on online skill-based gaming (MCC 5816)

Effective 1 July 2025 HDFC stopped awarding NeuCoins on online skill-based gaming, pinned to MCC 5816. It lands alongside the bank-wide 1% fee on gaming spends above Rs 10,000 a calendar month, so the same transaction now earns nothing and costs extra. Our timeline had previously folded this exclusion into the 1 January 2023 cap batch, two and a half years too early; that event has been corrected.

Swipe-based unlimited-style access (DreamFolks), up to 8/yr → ₹50,000/quarter spend → 2 vouchers/quarter (up to 8/yr)

Effective 10 Jun 2025 HDFC replaced direct swipe-based domestic lounge access (powered by DreamFolks) with a spend-milestone voucher system: spend ₹50,000+ in a calendar quarter to earn 2 complimentary domestic lounge vouchers that quarter (max 8/year). The 4 international (Priority Pass) visits were retained.

2024 2 changes — 2 cuts

▼ Reward Effective 1 Sept 2024

Education paid through third-party apps stops earning NeuCoins

Education payments earned NeuCoins → No NeuCoins on education routed through third-party apps

HDFC's Tata Neu terms add, effective 1 September 2024, that no NeuCoins accrue on "Education payments through third-party apps (CRED, Cheq, MobiKwik)". Paying a school, college or university DIRECTLY still earns — it is the routing through a bill-payment app that is excluded, which is easy to trigger without realising it. EDUCATION is a live spend category in our engine, so this is a real earning change rather than a documentation note.

UPI NeuCoins earning curtailed on non-Tata UPI

1.5% NeuCoins on eligible UPI (cap 500/mo) → 1.5% only on Tata Neu UPI ID; 0.5% on other UPI IDs (cap 500/mo)

From 1 Aug 2024, RuPay UPI earning was split: 1.5% back as NeuCoins only on spends made with the Tata Neu UPI ID, cut to 0.50% on other UPI IDs (GPay/PhonePe/Paytm), with total UPI NeuCoins still capped at 500 per calendar month. The 5%/1.5% card-swipe rates were unchanged.

Live From A Lounge lists 'Tata Neu Infinity' by name in the 2,000-points grocery-cap group. (Online gaming was NOT part of this batch — HDFC excluded it on 1 July 2025, recorded separately below.)
