RBL Bank Platinum Maxima Plus Credit Card
The RBL Platinum Maxima Plus is a fairly-priced lifestyle card with a smart category mix — 10X reward points on dining, entertainment, grocery and international spends (capped 1,000 points a month, combined), plus a free movie ticket and lounge access — that genuinely fits how urban Indians spend their fun money. The honest caveat is the points: the monthly cap and a devalued point value (~₹0.25, as low as ₹0.11) pull the real return to a modest 1–2.5%. It is a ₹2,500 card with NO spend-based fee waiver; welcome 10,000 points, milestones to 30,000 points, 2 domestic lounge visits a quarter on ₹35,000 of prior-quarter spend (no international), and one free movie ticket on 2+ BookMyShow bookings a month. Buy it for the lifestyle perks you will use, not for a 10X headline the fine print walks back.

The concern There is no fee waiver, the 10X is capped at 1,000 points/month and the point value is devalued (~₹0.25), so the headline rate overstates the real ~1–2.5% return.
The bottom line
For an annual fee of ₹2,500, the Platinum Maxima Plus combines practical lifestyle features such as domestic lounge access, monthly cinema ticket savings, and accelerated earn across dining and entertainment. However, prospective applicants should consider that the 1,000-point monthly limit and modest ~₹0.25 point valuation keep effective returns between 1% and 2.5%, with no renewal fee waiver and an absence of international lounge privileges.

▼ Fee Observed Jan 2026 · Effective 7 Jan 2026
New 1% fee on large FASTag top-ups and toll payments
No FASTag or toll transaction fee → 1% fee on any FASTag-loading or toll-payment transaction above ₹10,000
From 7 January 2026 RBL Bank charges a 1% fee on any single FASTag-loading or toll-payment transaction above ₹10,000, measured per transaction per card, across merchant category codes 4784, 4111 and 4131. Because the threshold is per transaction rather than a monthly aggregate, it bites on one-off large FASTag top-ups rather than on regular commuting; splitting a top-up below ₹10,000 avoids it. The fee sits alongside RBL's existing 1% charges on rent, on utility spends above ₹50,000 a month, on fuel transactions above ₹10,000, and on education payments routed through third-party apps. It is a fee on the transaction, not a change to reward earning — these categories already earn no reward points on most RBL cards.

▼ Lounge Effective 1 Jul 2025
Domestic lounge access spend-gated at ₹35,000/quarter
Complimentary domestic visits (2/quarter) → Requires ₹35,000 spend in the prior calendar quarter
From 1 July 2025 the 2-per-quarter complimentary domestic airport lounge visits on the Platinum Maxima became conditional on spending ₹35,000 or more in the previous calendar quarter; new cardholders get no access in their issuing quarter. The card's current RBL product page confirms the ₹35,000 prior-quarter gate. The card carries no international lounge access.

▼ Reward Effective 15 Oct 2024
Milestone & reward points excluded on many categories
Most spends counted for milestones/points → Key categories excluded from milestones & base points
Effective 15 October 2024 RBL narrowed earning further — sources explicitly name Platinum Maxima among the affected cards. Bonus milestone points stopped accruing on Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Railways, Real Estate/Rental, Education, Wallet, Government and other categories, and zero base reward points now accrue on Education, Government Services, Contracted Services, Cash and Bills2Pay. This shrinks the spend that reaches the ₹2L/₹3.5L/₹5L milestones.

▼ Fee Effective 15 Oct 2024
New 1% fees on large fuel, utility & education spends
No category transaction fees → 1% on big fuel/utility/third-party-education spends
From 15 October 2024 RBL added a 1% fee on any single fuel transaction over ₹10,000 (capped ₹3,000/txn), 1% on utility spends over ₹50,000 a month, and 1% on third-party-app education payments (Cred/PhonePe/Paytm and similar). This is separate from the standard 1% fuel-surcharge waiver on ₹500–4,000 fuel spends, which continues.

▼ Reward Effective 9 Oct 2023
Reward points removed on utilities, insurance, fuel & more
Most spends earned reward points → Insurance, wallet, fuel, utility, rental, railways, misc excluded
Effective 9 October 2023 RBL stopped awarding reward points on Insurance, Wallet loads, Fuel, Utility, Rental, Railways and Miscellaneous transactions across its standard reward-point cards, and EMI/utilities/insurance also lost eligibility. Milestone benefits were untouched at this stage, but the everyday spend base that earned points on the Platinum Maxima narrowed.

2020 1 change — 1 cut
▼ Redemption Effective 2020
RBL reward-point value cut on voucher redemptions
~25 paise/point → as low as 16–18 paise on vouchers
Around May 2020 RBL quietly devalued its reward-points programme, dropping voucher redemption rates from ~25 paise to as low as 16 paise (Big Bazaar) and 17–18 paise (Amazon/Flipkart) with no advance notice — a haircut felt directly by Platinum Maxima holders, whose 10X earning is denominated in these standard RBL reward points. Travel redemptions reportedly held nearer 25 paise.
