RBL Bank Icon Credit Card
The RBL Icon is a dining-and-international card with a respectable benefit sheet — 20 reward points per ₹100 (5% at ₹0.25/point) on weekend dining and overseas spend, 2 RP per ₹100 elsewhere, BOGO movie tickets twice a month, 12 golf lessons, a 20,000-point welcome bonus and milestones to 45,000 points (10,000 at ₹3L, +15,000 at ₹5L, +20,000 at ₹8L). Lounge access is 2 visits a quarter on ₹35,000 of prior-quarter spend. The trouble it cannot escape is internal: at a ₹5,000 fee, RBL's own Platinum Maxima Plus serves a similar audience for less, and the Icon rarely does enough extra to justify being the pick — a fine card that is usually the wrong answer within RBL's own range.

The concern Its own cheaper sibling (Platinum Maxima Plus) outcompetes it for most diners, and at a ₹5,000 fee the use case where Icon wins is narrow; RBL's service/offer depth also trails the big banks.
The bottom line
The RBL Bank Icon Credit Card offers solid lifestyle perks—including 5% back on weekend dining and foreign transactions, complimentary golf lessons, bi-monthly BookMyShow BOGO tickets, and up to 45,000 milestone points. However, at a ₹5,000 price point, RBL's own Platinum Maxima Plus covers much of the same ground for less, meaning the Icon is best suited only for cardholders who will actively use its specific combination of golf and 5X international spending.

▼ Fee Observed Jan 2026 · Effective 7 Jan 2026
New 1% fee on large FASTag top-ups and toll payments
No FASTag or toll transaction fee → 1% fee on any FASTag-loading or toll-payment transaction above ₹10,000
From 7 January 2026 RBL Bank charges a 1% fee on any single FASTag-loading or toll-payment transaction above ₹10,000, measured per transaction per card, across merchant category codes 4784, 4111 and 4131. Because the threshold is per transaction rather than a monthly aggregate, it bites on one-off large FASTag top-ups rather than on regular commuting; splitting a top-up below ₹10,000 avoids it. The fee sits alongside RBL's existing 1% charges on rent, on utility spends above ₹50,000 a month, on fuel transactions above ₹10,000, and on education payments routed through third-party apps. It is a fee on the transaction, not a change to reward earning — these categories already earn no reward points on most RBL cards.

2024 2 changes — 2 cuts
▼ Reward Effective 15 Oct 2024
Milestone & reward points excluded on many categories
Most spends counted for milestones/points → Key categories excluded from milestones & points
Effective 15 Oct 2024 RBL narrowed earning on the Icon: bonus milestone points no longer accrue on Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Education, Quasi-Cash and similar categories, and no reward points at all on Education, Government Services, Contracted Services, Cash and Bills2Pay. Framed as curbing commercial use, it shrinks the spend base that reaches the ₹3–8 lakh milestones.

▼ Fee Effective 15 Oct 2024
New 1% fee on large fuel & auto transactions
No transaction fee on fuel/auto → 1% on each fuel/auto txn over ₹10,000
From 15 Oct 2024 RBL added a 1% fee on every fuel and auto transaction exceeding ₹10,000, capped at ₹3,000 per transaction, alongside new fees on high-value utility (over ₹50,000/month) and third-party education payments. This is separate from the standard 1% fuel-surcharge waiver on ₹500–4,000 fuel spends, which continues.

▼ Redemption Effective 2020
RBL reward-point value cut on voucher redemptions
~25 paise/point → as low as 16–18 paise on vouchers
Around April 2020 RBL quietly devalued its reward-points programme, dropping voucher redemption rates from ~25 paise to as low as 16 paise (Big Bazaar) and 18 paise (Amazon/Flipkart) — a 10–36% haircut that hit Icon holders since the card earns standard RBL reward points. Travel redemptions reportedly held nearer 25 paise. RBL gave no advance notice.
