RBL Bank Blockbuster Credit Card

Mid-tierFee variesRewardsTravelDining

The RBL Blockbuster is a mid-tier entertainment card whose headline is 2 free BookMyShow tickets every month you spend ₹20,000, backed by 4 domestic lounge visits a year (one a quarter, no spend condition) and a welcome bundle of 8,000 reward points plus a ₹1,000 BookMyShow benefit. Base earn is thin — RBL's terms set 1 reward point per ₹100 while the product page markets 2 — lifted to 20 points per ₹100 on weekend dining up to 2,000 points a cycle, and an annual milestone ladder pays 10,000 points at ₹3.5 lakh and a further 15,000 at ₹5 lakh. At a ₹3,000 fee with no waiver, the card only makes sense if you reliably hit the ₹20,000 monthly spend and actually use the movie tickets and lounge visits.

The concern The ₹3,000 fee has no spend waiver, the free tickets need ₹20,000 of spend every month, and base earn is only 2 points per ₹100 — the card underdelivers for anyone who misses the monthly target.

The bottom line

The Blockbuster combines two monthly complimentary cinema tickets, unconditional quarterly domestic lounge visits, and a fee-recouping welcome bundle into a ₹3,000 card. For frequent moviegoers capable of maintaining a ₹20,000 monthly spend, the card delivers solid returns. However, with no annual fee waiver and a modest base earn rate of 2 points per ₹100, falling short of the monthly spending target quickly erodes the card's overall value proposition.

▲ Revaluation ▼ Devaluation ◆ Neutral / reversed

2026 1 change — 1 cut

▼ Fee Observed Jan 2026 · Effective 7 Jan 2026

New 1% fee on large FASTag top-ups and toll payments

No FASTag or toll transaction fee → 1% fee on any FASTag-loading or toll-payment transaction above ₹10,000

From 7 January 2026 RBL Bank charges a 1% fee on any single FASTag-loading or toll-payment transaction above ₹10,000, measured per transaction per card, across merchant category codes 4784, 4111 and 4131. Because the threshold is per transaction rather than a monthly aggregate, it bites on one-off large FASTag top-ups rather than on regular commuting; splitting a top-up below ₹10,000 avoids it. The fee sits alongside RBL's existing 1% charges on rent, on utility spends above ₹50,000 a month, on fuel transactions above ₹10,000, and on education payments routed through third-party apps. It is a fee on the transaction, not a change to reward earning — these categories already earn no reward points on most RBL cards.

2024 2 changes — 2 cuts

▼ Reward Effective 15 Oct 2024

More categories excluded from points and qualifying spend

Most retail spends earned points and counted for benefits → Education, govt, cash, Bills2Pay etc. earn nothing and are excluded

From 15 October 2024 RBL widened its exclusions bank-wide: no reward points at all on Education, Government Services, Contracted Services, Cash, Bills2Pay and similar, and these plus Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Railways, Rental and Wallet stopped counting toward spend-based benefits. For Blockbuster that means such spends no longer count toward the ₹20,000 monthly threshold that unlocks the 2 free BookMyShow tickets, shrinking the spend base that reaches the benefit.

▼ Fee Effective 15 Oct 2024

New 1% fees on large fuel, utility and education spends

No category transaction fees → 1% on large fuel/utility/third-party-education spends

From 15 October 2024 RBL added a 1% fee on any single fuel transaction over ₹10,000 (capped ₹3,000/txn), 1% on utility spends over ₹50,000 in a month, and 1% on third-party-app education payments (Cred/PhonePe/Paytm and similar). These apply to Blockbuster like every RBL card, independent of how it rewards, and are separate from the standard 1% fuel-surcharge waiver on ₹500–4,000 fuel spends, which continues.

2023 1 change — 1 cut

▼ Reward Effective 9 Oct 2023

Reward points removed on several everyday categories

Most spends earned 2 RP/₹100 → Insurance, wallet, fuel, utility, rent, railways, misc excluded

Effective 09 October 2023 RBL stopped awarding reward points on Insurance, Wallet loads, Fuel, Utilities, Rental, Railways and Miscellaneous transactions across its cards. Since Blockbuster earns a flat 2 reward points per ₹100 on all spends, these categories ceased to earn — narrowing the base that builds points. Milestone and the monthly movie-ticket benefit were untouched at this stage.
