LIC Select Credit Card

Entry levelFee variesRewardsFuelTravel

The LIC Select is the higher tier of the IDFC FIRST × LIC × Mastercard co-brand, and it roughly doubles the LIC Classic. It earns 10 reward points per ₹125 (~2%) on LIC premium payments made through LIC of India's official website, and 5 points per ₹125 (~1%) on all other spends; the Essentials categories (groceries, utilities, railways, FASTag, education and government) also earn 5 points per ₹125 but are capped at 600 points a month. A point is worth ₹0.25 and expires three years after being earned. The perk sheet is a step up from the Classic — 2 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits a quarter plus 4 railway lounge visits a quarter, a 1% fuel-surcharge waiver up to ₹300, complimentary insurance cover, and a 2,000-point welcome bonus on ₹10,000 of spend in 30 days. Forex is a standard 3.5%. Both LIC cards are lifetime free, so the choice between them is not about fees: the Select earns at roughly double the Classic's rate and asks for a higher income to qualify.

The concern The 2% rate is limited to LIC premiums paid on LIC's official website, the select-category earn is capped at 600 points/month, and the 3.5% forex makes it a poor travel card.

The bottom line

Because both LIC co-branded products are issued lifetime-free, the LIC Select is the obvious choice if you satisfy its higher income requirements. Delivering 10 reward points per ₹125 on portal-paid premiums, it produces roughly ₹2,000 in value on ₹1 lakh of yearly insurance dues without any recurring annual cost, supported by a decent 1% base earn on other spends. The main limitations remain the portal-only 2% reward scope, the 600-point monthly cap on Essentials, and a standard 3.5% forex markup.

Bonus reward points on travel booked in the IDFC FIRST app

No app-booking bonus → 45X bonus on hotels, 20X bonus on flights

IDFC added accelerated earning on travel booked through the IDFC FIRST Bank mobile app — 45X bonus reward points on hotels and 20X on flights, the same uplift given to the LIC Classic. It pairs naturally with the card's lounge access, though it only pays inside the bank's own booking channel.

FASTag folded into the capped Essentials bucket

FASTag earned 5X outside the Essentials ceiling → FASTag counts within Essentials — still 5X, but sharing its 600 RP/cycle ceiling

IDFC moved FASTag recharges (MCC 4784) into the card's Essentials category. The rate is untouched at 5 reward points per ₹125, but FASTag now draws on the same 600-points-per-cycle ceiling as the other Essentials spends, so regular toll users reach the cap sooner and earn nothing beyond it.

▼ Fee Observed 18 Dec 2025 · Effective 18 Jan 2026

Fair-usage fees on heavy FASTag and railway spends

No FASTag or railway spend fee → 1% fee above ₹10,000 FASTag or ₹25,000 railway per cycle

FASTag recharges above ₹10,000 in a billing cycle now attract a 1% fee on the whole cycle's FASTag amount, and railway spends (MCC 4111, 4112) above ₹25,000 do the same. Railway is a notable target here, since the card advertises four railway-lounge visits a quarter.

▼ Reward Observed 18 Dec 2025 · Effective 18 Jan 2026

Whole cycle's reward points forfeited if minimum due is missed

Points accrued regardless of payment behaviour → No points for any cycle where the minimum amount due is unpaid by the due date

From 18 January 2026, failing to pay at least the Minimum Amount Due by the payment due date voids reward points for that entire billing cycle, and any points already posted for it are reversed. The exposure is largest on exactly the card's intended use — a big annual LIC premium charged at 10X, then lost in full if that cycle's minimum slips.

◆ Launch Effective 14 Dec 2023

LIC Select launched with LIC Cards and Mastercard

IDFC FIRST Bank, LIC Cards Services and Mastercard launched the LIC co-brand in two variants — LIC Classic and LIC Select — aimed at LIC's 27 crore-plus policyholders. Select was the upper variant: no joining fee and no annual fee with no minimum-spend condition, 10X reward points on LIC insurance premium payments (double the Classic's 6X), complimentary airport and railway lounge access, a 1% fuel-surcharge waiver, roadside assistance worth ₹1,399, personal-accident cover up to ₹5 lakh and lost-card liability cover up to ₹50,000. Points are redeemable against any online purchase, including future LIC premiums.
