LIC Classic Credit Card
The LIC Classic (an IDFC FIRST × LIC × Mastercard co-brand) is a lifetime-free card built around one job: paying your LIC insurance premiums. It earns 6 reward points per ₹125 (~1.2%) on premiums paid through LIC of India's official website, and 3 points per ₹125 (~0.6%) on all other spends including utilities, groceries, education, railways and government — with the Essentials categories sharing a 300-point monthly ceiling. A point is worth ₹0.25 and now expires three years after it is earned. On top of that sit a modest bundle — 1 domestic airport and 2 railway lounge visits a quarter, a 1% fuel-surcharge waiver up to ₹200 and complimentary insurance cover — and a 1,000-point welcome bonus on ₹5,000 of spend in the first 30 days. The forex is a standard 3.5%, so this is not a travel card. Its use is narrow — the 6X only fires on LIC's own site — but since it costs nothing to hold, there is no annual spend you need to clear to make it pay for itself.

The concern The headline 6X only applies to LIC premiums paid on LIC's official website; everything else earns an ordinary 3 points per ₹125 with the Essentials categories capped at 300 points a month, and the 3.5% forex rules it out for travel.
The bottom line
Because the LIC Classic is completely lifetime-free, it functions effectively as a zero-cost utility tool for policyholders. Earning 6 reward points per ₹125 on premium payments via LIC's official portal provides uncomplicated incremental savings on mandatory recurring outlays. Outside of insurance payments, the card's 3 points per ₹125 earn rate and standard 3.5% forex charge are unexceptional, making it best reserved specifically for policy dues while routing daily retail expenses to stronger general cashback cards.

Bonus reward points on travel booked in the IDFC FIRST app
No app-booking bonus → 45X bonus on hotels, 20X bonus on flights
IDFC added accelerated earning on travel booked through the IDFC FIRST Bank mobile app — 45X bonus reward points on hotels and 20X on flights. It gives an otherwise single-purpose premium-payment card a second reason to be used, though only inside the bank's own booking channel.

FASTag folded into the capped Essentials bucket
FASTag earned 3X outside the Essentials ceiling → FASTag counts within Essentials — still 3X, but sharing its 300 RP/cycle ceiling
IDFC moved FASTag recharges (MCC 4784) into the card's Essentials category. The rate is untouched at 3 reward points per ₹125, but FASTag now draws on the same 300-points-per-cycle ceiling as the other Essentials spends, so regular toll users reach the cap sooner and earn nothing beyond it.

Fair-usage fees on heavy FASTag and railway spends
No FASTag or railway spend fee → 1% fee above ₹10,000 FASTag or ₹25,000 railway per cycle
FASTag recharges above ₹10,000 in a billing cycle now attract a 1% fee on the whole cycle's FASTag amount, and railway spends (MCC 4111, 4112) above ₹25,000 do the same. Railway is a notable target here, since railway-station lounge access is one of the card's advertised perks.

▼ Reward Observed 18 Dec 2025 · Effective 18 Jan 2026
Whole cycle's reward points forfeited if minimum due is missed
Points accrued regardless of payment behaviour → No points for any cycle where the minimum amount due is unpaid by the due date
From 18 January 2026, failing to pay at least the Minimum Amount Due by the payment due date voids reward points for that entire billing cycle, and any points already posted for it are reversed. It bites hardest on this card's core use: a large annual LIC premium charged in a cycle whose minimum is then missed earns nothing at all.
