Kotak White Credit Card
The Kotak White is the mainstream member of the White family, sitting well below the ₹12,500 metal White Reserve. For a ₹3,000 fee it runs on the same "White Pass" reward idea: a milestone currency you unlock as annual spend climbs — roughly ₹2,000 of value at ₹2 lakh, scaling to ₹27,000 at ₹12 lakh of spend, with 1 White Pass = ₹1 on the catalogue (or ₹0.70 as cashback). It adds a Priority Pass membership with 4 complimentary international lounge visits a year and 2 domestic visits a quarter — though since 1 April 2026 each quarter's domestic visits have to be earned by spending ₹1,00,000 in the quarter before, so a moderate spender can end up with none. Kotak's product page and its own lounge terms disagree on whether Priority Pass is still issued, so confirm that before you count on it. There is also a ₹1,500 welcome voucher on ₹30,000 of spend in 60 days, and a 1% fuel-surcharge waiver. The fee waives at ₹5 lakh. Because the rewards are milestone-gated rather than flat per-rupee, the effective rate only reaches ~2.25% at the top ₹12 lakh tier and is closer to ~1% for moderate spenders — so it rewards people who will genuinely clear the higher milestones.

The concern The reward value is milestone-gated, not flat — the effective rate only nears ~2.25% at ₹12 lakh of annual spend and is closer to ~1% for moderate spenders, and cashback redemption drops White Pass to ₹0.70 each.
The bottom line
The Kotak White presents a well-rounded premium proposition, bundling Priority Pass airport access, a ₹1,500 welcome voucher, and 1:1 catalogue redemption on White Pass currency. However, because earnings are purely milestone-contingent, the attractive ~2.25% return requires hitting ₹12 lakh in annual expenditure, whereas spending ₹5 lakh yields closer to ~1%. The card is well-tailored for consistent high spenders who can comfortably unlock upper milestone bands.

Lounge access spend-gated at ₹1,00,000 a quarter
2 complimentary airport lounge visits a quarter, unconditional → ₹1,00,000 spend in a calendar quarter unlocks 2 visits the next quarter
From 1 April 2026 Kotak made the White's complimentary airport lounge access conditional: you must spend ₹1,00,000 or more in a calendar quarter to unlock two complimentary visits in the following quarter — so a Jan–Mar quarter's spending determines Apr–Jun access. On a card whose lounge access was previously unconditional, a moderate spender can now lose it entirely.

▼ Milestone Effective 1 Apr 2026
Transportation & education dropped from White Pass milestone maths
Transportation and education spends counted toward White Pass milestones → Both categories excluded from the milestone calculation
Effective 1 April 2026, spends on transportation and education (identified by merchant category code) stopped counting toward the White Pass milestone benefit. It is the second narrowing of the milestone base in under a year, after the June-2025 revision removed rent, fuel, utilities, insurance, wallet, government and gaming — steadily raising the real spend needed to reach each White Pass tier.

Transaction fees introduced on rent, wallet, fuel, utility, education and gaming spends
No category transaction fees → Rent charged 2%; wallet, fuel, utility, education & gaming 1% past per-cycle limits
Kotak's June 2025 revision put transaction fees on categories the White had previously carried for free. Its Key Fact Statement now lists a 2% fee on rent payments (MCC 6513, charged from the first rupee), and 1% on wallet loading above ₹10,000 a statement cycle, fuel above ₹50,000, utility above ₹75,000, online skill-based gaming above ₹10,000, and on education paid through third-party apps. Corrected 2026-08-04: this event previously described the same revision as stripping those categories out of White Pass earning and the milestone calculation. That was wrong. Kotak's MCC annexure — the document cited below, and the one this event had always named as its source — lists 24 card variants in its reward and milestone exclusion table, and the Kotak White is not among them. The White appears only in the transaction-fee table. The genuine White Pass earning exclusions arrived later and separately, on 1 April 2026, and cover education and transportation only; they are recorded as their own event above.

◆ Launch Effective 2022
Kotak White in market — the mainstream White Pass card
White Pass milestone value from ₹2 lakh spend, up to ₹27,000 a year
Kotak's White sits a rung below the ₹12,500 metal White Reserve and runs on the same milestone-based White Pass currency rather than a per-rupee earn rate. For a ₹3,000 joining and annual fee (waived above ₹5 lakh of annual spend) it gave ₹1,500 of welcome White Pass value, milestone value unlocking from ₹2 lakh of spend and scaling to roughly ₹27,000 at ₹12 lakh, two domestic lounge visits a quarter and a Priority Pass with four international visits a year. Kotak published no dated launch notice; the earliest detailed review dates to July 2022, so the year is reconstructed. The fee, milestone and lounge figures in this event are the terms Kotak publishes today, carried back to the launch because no launch-day term sheet survives — read them as the earliest terms we can evidence, not as a verified 2022 position.
