Kotak Cashback+ Prime Credit Card

Entry levelFee variesCashbackRewardsTravel

The Kotak Cashback+ Prime is the flagship of Kotak's Cashback+ family and, unusually for a Kotak card, its rewards are honest cashback (1 point = ₹1) rather than reward points — worth noting because Kotak's thinnest currencies, on the League, Urbane and UPI RuPay cards, are revised in the MITC to about ₹0.07 a point, even though most other Kotak cards sit nearer ₹0.20. It earns 5% on online grocery, food delivery and entertainment plus auto-dealer spends, 3% on fuel, and an unlimited 0.5% on everything else. The catch is the cap: one 750-point (₹750) per-billing-cycle ceiling covers every accelerated category together, fuel included, so the high rates only apply to about ₹15,000 of accelerated spend a month — and once that ceiling is hit those categories earn nothing at all for the rest of the cycle, not even the 0.5% base. The joining and annual fee is ₹750, waived at ₹2 lakh of annual spend, though rent, wallet, utility, education and transportation spends do not count toward that target. There is no lounge access and forex is the standard 3.5%, so this is a home-spending cashback card, not a travel one. A base Cashback+ card also exists at the same ₹750 fee and the same 750-point cap — the difference is the categories, not the price: the base pays 5% on online movie tickets and OTT subscriptions where Prime pays 5% on entertainment and auto dealers.

fuel waiver ~ ₹1,000 /yr

1% fuel surcharge waiver on ₹500–₹4,000 fuel transactions, up to ₹3,500 per anniversary year. Kotak's MITC adds that transactions given this waiver earn no reward points and names only the base Cashback+ card as exempt, which sits awkwardly beside the 3% fuel rate on the product page

Should you get it?

Best for: Online grocery and food-delivery spenders, People who want simple ₹-back over points

Mid tier — a solid all-rounder for steady monthly spend.

Strongest value if you spend heavily on Groceries ( 5% back).

✓ Pros

  • Real ₹1-a-point cashback rather than reward points
  • 5% on online grocery, food delivery, entertainment and auto dealers (within the cap)
  • 3% cashback on fuel spends
  • Low ₹750 fee, waived at ₹2 lakh of annual spend

✕ Cons

  • One 750-point (₹750) per-cycle cap covers every accelerated category including fuel — and they earn nothing once it is met
  • No airport lounge access
  • Long exclusion list (rent, utilities, education, government, wallet, EMI) earns nothing
  • Standard ~3.5% forex markup — not a card for international spends
  • Unclaimed cashback expires after a year, and a 1% fee applies once fuel crosses ₹25,000 or utility crosses ₹35,000 in a billing cycle
  • Kotak publishes no eligibility criteria for this card, so the income and age figures shown are our estimate rather than a bank rule

The concern The accelerated bucket is capped at just 750 points (₹750) per billing cycle across every accelerated category combined, fuel included, and those categories earn nothing once it is met. Add a long exclusion list (rent, utilities, education, government, wallet, EMI) and real return depends heavily on staying inside the cap.

The bottom line

The Kotak Cashback+ Prime stands out among Kotak's lineup for its tangible value, offering genuine ₹1-per-point cashback rather than diluted reward currencies. Its 5% return across online groceries, dining apps, and entertainment provides strong everyday savings up to the combined ₹750 monthly ceiling, beyond which accelerated categories stop accruing rewards entirely while general spends continue earning 0.5%. It is well-suited for domestic household spenders whose category expenses align with the monthly cap and who spend at least ₹2 lakh annually to trigger the fee waiver.

Kotak Cashback+ Prime launched — Cashback+ with an auto-dealer accelerator

5% on online food/grocery/entertainment and auto dealers, 3% fuel, 0.5% base

Kotak introduced the Cashback+ Prime alongside the Air+ Prime. It is a modified version of the existing Kotak Cashback+ rather than a wholly new product: the Prime variant adds 5% cashback at eligible auto-dealer merchants on top of the 5% on online grocery, food delivery and entertainment, 3% on fuel and an unlimited 0.5% on everything else. The accelerated bucket stays capped at 750 points (₹750) per billing cycle across those categories combined — fuel counts toward the same ceiling, not a separate one. The card carries a ₹750 joining and annual fee, waived at ₹2 lakh of annual spend. Unusually for Kotak, the rewards are honest cashback at 1 point = ₹1 rather than the bank's weaker legacy reward points. Kotak does not publish a launch date for the card; the 8 May 2026 date here comes from secondary reporting, which is why this event is recorded as reconstructed.
