Kotak 811 #DreamDifferent Credit Card
The Kotak 811 #DreamDifferent is an FD-secured starter — back it with a fixed deposit, skip the income proof, and start building a CIBIL score while the deposit keeps earning interest. The credit limit runs up to 90% of the amount Kotak marks a lien on. There is no annual fee ever, but a ₹250 + GST joining fee applies if the deposit is under ₹20,000 — so the smallest deposits are not the cheapest way in. Its product is not the rewards (2 reward points per ₹100 online and 1 per ₹100 offline — Kotak publishes no redemption value for this card, so the ~0.4% and ~0.2% figures used here rest on our own ₹0.20-a-point estimate) — it is credit access. Kotak advertises milestone benefits worth up to ₹1,000, though it does not publish the spend that qualifies, and has run a welcome offer of three months of OTTPlay for ₹1 plus a ₹250 Woohoo voucher — the last terms Kotak published for that offer ran to 31 December 2025 and required an 811 savings account, so check whether it is still live before applying. There is also a 1% fuel surcharge waiver. Fuel and railway spends earn no reward points. For a credit-invisible first-timer who can fund a small FD, it is an easy, low-risk way into the formal system. (A separate unsecured Kotak 811 with a ₹500 fee exists for those who qualify without an FD.)

The concern Your money is locked as collateral while you build history, limits track the FD, and the rewards are minimal by design — a tool for credit access, not returns.
The bottom line
The 811 #DreamDifferent addresses an essential requirement for first-time borrowers: securing a credit line against a modest fixed deposit, generating FD interest, and establishing a CIBIL credit history without income paperwork. Although reward returns (2 RP per ₹100 on online spends) are minimal, the card's real value lies in building credit from scratch. For individuals with no prior credit history, it serves as a secure stepping stone before transitioning to mainstream unsecured cards.

June 2025 revision: 1% category transaction fees added
No category transaction fee (reported) → 1% above per-cycle limits; 2% on all rent
As part of Kotak's bank-wide 1 June 2025 credit-card revision, this card's Key Fact Statement (version KFSDD12032026) prices a 1% fee on fuel spends above ₹25,000 a statement cycle, utility spends above ₹35,000, and wallet loads and online skill-based gaming above ₹10,000, plus 1% on education paid through third-party apps and 2% on all rent payments. The wider list of categories that stopped earning points is published by Kotak for the unsecured 811 and the UPI RuPay card, not on any #DreamDifferent page — a transaction fee is not the same thing as losing accrual, and the only earning exclusions Kotak states for this card are fuel and railway spends.

◆ Launch Effective 15 Jul 2020
Rebranded from Aqua Gold to 811 #DreamDifferent
2 RP per ₹100 online; FD-secured from a ₹15,000 deposit, marketed lifetime-free
On 15 July 2020 Kotak rebranded its Aqua Gold card into the 811 #DreamDifferent — an FD-secured starter for credit-invisible applicants with no income proof, marketed as lifetime-free. The launch release named four things — lifetime-free status, up to 48 days interest-free, 2 reward points per ₹100 on online spends, and a fuel and railway surcharge waiver. The deposit backing it started at ₹15,000 (₹10,000 today) and kept earning interest, letting a first-timer build a CIBIL history at zero fee. The release named no milestone benefit and no offline earn rate.
