IndusInd Bank Duo Card
The Duo is a genuine novelty: India's first debit-cum-credit card, carrying two EMV chips and two PINs so a single card acts as your IndusInd debit card or your credit card depending on which chip the terminal reads. It pairs with an IndusInd savings account, though IndusInd's own page contemplates opening both together as a new-to-bank customer, so an existing relationship is not a precondition. Judge the credit side honestly: it earns just 1 reward point per ₹150 spent — a low base — so the rewards are not the reason to hold it, and fuel earns nothing at all. The reasons are the extras: a BookMyShow buy-one-get-one once a month, with the free ticket capped at ₹200 since 1 June 2023 — up to ₹2,400 a year — a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on ₹500–₹3,000 fuel spends (capped ₹250 a cycle), Total Protect fraud cover and ICICI Lombard travel insurance. It is lifetime-free (NIL/NIL) in IndusInd's MITC. One caution on forex: the product page still advertises a 2% cross-currency markup, but that figure is carried over from IndusInd's debit-card page template, and the MITC — which names the Duo in five other rows — leaves it to the residual "all other credit cards" line at 3.5%. We model 3.5%. As a rewards engine it is weak; as a do-both convenience card it has a niche.

✓ Pros
- Debit and credit in one card — India's first two-chip debit-cum-credit product
- Lifetime-free — NIL joining and NIL annual fee in IndusInd's MITC
- A BookMyShow buy-one-get-one every month, worth up to ₹2,400 a year
- 1% fuel surcharge waiver on ₹500–₹3,000 fuel spends, plus Total Protect and travel insurance
✕ Cons
- Credit-side reward rate is very low — 1 point per ₹150 (~0.33%)
- Fuel spends earn no reward points at all — IndusInd zeroed fuel accrual portfolio-wide on 1 April 2018
- Pairs with an IndusInd savings account, and supplementary or add-on cards cannot be issued on a Duo
- Best value comes from the monthly movie benefit, not from everyday earning
- IndusInd's own product page is unreliable on this card: it still advertises a 2% forex markup and ₹3,000 of movie tickets, both carried over from the debit-card template and both contradicted by the bank's MITC and its own credit-card T&C
- Reward points accrue only on spend up to your assigned credit limit in each statement cycle — IndusInd's own worked example forfeits 800 of 1,800 points
- Redeeming costs money: ₹149 + 18% GST for cash credit (₹100 for every other category), so a minimum 500-point cash redemption is worth ₹250 against ₹175.82 of fee — the fee takes 70% of it
- Cash redemption is capped at 2,500 reward points a calendar month, needs a 500-point minimum, and since 1 April 2025 may draw on only half your points balance
- From 15 June 2026 fuel spends above ₹30,000 a statement cycle attract 1% + GST, dynamic currency conversion on an overseas merchant billing in rupees costs 2% + GST, and ground transport above ₹40,000 a cycle attracts 1% + GST

Ways to convert what you earn into real value.

🎁 Online shopping catalogue vouchers
🎁 Airline miles with partner airlines
🎁 Redemption is not free: ₹149 plus 18% GST for cash credit, ₹100 for every other category. At ₹0.50 a point the 500-point minimum is worth ₹250, so the fee takes 70% of the smallest redemption you can make — redeem in large batches

The concern The credit-side reward rate is very low (1 point per ₹150) and fuel earns nothing, so almost all of the card''s value rides on the movie benefit. IndusInd''s own product page is also unreliable on this card — it still advertises a 2% forex markup and ₹3,000 of movie tickets, both contradicted by the bank''s own MITC and T&C.
The bottom line
Designed for dual-card convenience rather than serious points earning, the IndusInd Duo Card's baseline rate of 1 point per ₹150 makes it unsuitable as a primary spending card. However, its lifetime-free structure, dual-chip functionality, and monthly BookMyShow movie perk make it a handy secondary wallet addition, though overseas spends incur the standard 3.5% credit card markup rather than the outdated 2% figure on promotional materials.

▼ Fee Observed 13 May 2026 · Effective 15 Jun 2026
Dynamic Currency Conversion fee doubled 1% → 2%
1% + taxes → 2% + GST
From 15 June 2026 the Dynamic Currency Conversion mark-up — levied when an international transaction, or one at an India-based merchant registered overseas, is billed in rupees rather than the local currency — doubled from 1% to 2% + GST on the Duo. Premium variants were held at 1%. It bears watching on this card specifically, since the Duo's 2% cross-currency mark-up is its one genuinely competitive number; DCC is a separate, avoidable charge — always choose to be billed in the merchant's local currency.

Fuel fee threshold cut ₹50,000 → ₹30,000 a cycle
1% + GST above ₹50,000/cycle → 1% + GST above ₹30,000/cycle
From 15 June 2026 IndusInd charges 1% + GST on cumulative fuel spends above ₹30,000 in a statement cycle on the Duo, down from the ₹50,000 threshold that applied until 14 June 2026. The bank split its portfolio in two and placed the Duo in the lower ₹30,000 tier; premium variants kept ₹50,000. This is a fee on the spend itself, distinct from the surcharge-waiver revision of May 2024.

New 1% fee on transport spends above ₹40,000 a cycle
No transport fee → 1% + GST above ₹40,000/cycle
From 15 June 2026 IndusInd levies 1% + GST on cumulative transport spends above ₹40,000 in a statement cycle — MCCs 4111, 4112, 4131 and 4784, covering cabs, rail, bus and tolls. Air travel is excluded. Only Pioneer Private, Pioneer Heritage and Indus Solitaire are exempt, so the Duo is in scope.

2025 1 change — 1 cut
▼ Benefit Effective 21 Dec 2025
Complimentary air-accident insurance withdrawn
Complimentary air-accident cover provided with the card → No air-accident cover
On 21 December 2025 IndusInd discontinued the complimentary air-accident insurance feature across its credit cards, stating simply that the coverage "stands discontinued". The bank published no replacement and named no exempt card. Note that several IndusInd product pages still described the cover months afterwards — the Avios, Duo, Pioneer Private and Platinum pages all still advertised it in August 2026 — so a reader may encounter the old wording on IndusInd's own site; the dated withdrawal notice is the operative statement. Other insurance benefits are unaffected: lost-card liability, Total Protect fraud cover, travel insurance and purchase protection continue where the card carried them.

2024 1 change — 1 cut
▼ Fee Effective 5 May 2024
Fuel surcharge waiver narrowed and capped at ₹250 a cycle
Waiver on ₹500–₹3,000 transactions, capped ₹250/cycle
Effective 5 May 2024 IndusInd revised the fuel surcharge waiver across its portfolio, lowering the transaction band within which the 1% surcharge is refunded. The Duo was grouped with Nexxt, EazyDiner Signature, Iconia and the InterMiles cards: the waiver now applies only to fuel transactions of ₹500–₹3,000 and is capped at ₹250 per billing cycle. The bank did not publish the prior band alongside the revision, so the exact before-state is not recorded here; the companion EazyDiner Signature's upper limit was reported cut ₹4,000 → ₹3,000 in the same revision.

◆ Launch Effective 10 Oct 2018
IndusInd Bank Duo Card launched — India's first two-chip debit-cum-credit card
IndusInd launched the Duo Card in Mumbai: India's first card carrying two EMV chips and two magnetic stripes on one plastic, so a single card works as both the holder's IndusInd debit card and their credit card. The pitch was consolidation rather than rate — one plastic, a single statement of account, and a Rewards programme that pools points across both sides — aimed at "young upwardly-mobile" customers with offers across entertainment, travel and lifestyle. It launched with an integrated campaign fronted by Boman Irani.
