IndiGo Axis Bank Credit Card

Mid-tierFee variesRewardsTravelDining

Axis Bank built the IndiGo Axis Bank Credit Card as the base tier of its airline tie-up with IndiGo, running on IndiGo's own BluChip rewards currency. Spend on an IndiGo flight, a 6E add-on, or through the IndiGo app and you're credited 3 BluChips for every ₹100; grocery and dining purchases bring in 2 BluChips per ₹100, while anything outside those categories settles at 1 BluChip per ₹100. A ₹799 joining and annual fee applies, but cardholders get it back twice over — a 1,200-BluChip voucher on sign-up and another on every renewal, each one usable for six months before it expires. Push annual spending past ₹1.5 lakh or ₹3 lakh and you pick up an extra 1,200 BluChips at each threshold, and a quarterly complimentary domestic lounge visit kicks in once you've spent ₹50,000 in the trailing three months. Where the card gets tricky is valuing what you've earned: there's no fixed conversion rate from either Axis or IndiGo, and BluChips can only be put toward IndiGo tickets at whatever the fare happens to cost that day. Our internal transfer data pegs a BluChip at roughly 42 paise, which puts the 3-per-₹100 travel rate at about 1.3% back in fare value — though the actual return on any given booking will drift above or below that depending on pricing.

Should you get it?

Best for: Regular IndiGo flyer who redeems into IndiGo fares, Wants a low-fee airline co-brand, Books directly on the IndiGo app or website, ₹25K–75K/month income

This sits at the entry tier — a reasonable starting point for first-time cardholders or lighter spenders.

The value proposition is strongest for Travel spend, which returns 1.26%.

Anyone who travels often will get extra mileage out of the bundled airport lounge access.

✓ Pros

  • Earns 3 IndiGo BluChips per ₹100 on IndiGo bookings, a strong rate for anyone who flies the airline regularly
  • The ₹799 fee is effectively wiped out by the 1,200-BluChip voucher issued at each renewal
  • Hitting ₹1.5L or ₹3L in annual spend adds 1,200 BluChips at each milestone
  • Includes one free domestic lounge visit every quarter

✕ Cons

  • BluChips can only be redeemed against IndiGo fares at a rate that isn't fixed or published, with no option to transfer or cash out — meaning the true value of the 3/2/1 earn structure depends entirely on how your own bookings price out
  • Lounge access is domestic-only and requires ₹50,000 in spend over the prior quarter before it unlocks
  • There's no fuel surcharge waiver, and categories like rent, wallets, fuel, utilities, insurance, gold and EMIs earn zero BluChips
  • All vouchers — welcome, renewal, and milestone — expire six months after they're issued, with no extensions offered by Axis
  • A 1% surcharge applies to rent (no cap) as well as to wallet loads, online gaming, utility payments and fuel purchases once they cross monthly thresholds — and most of these spends don't earn BluChips to begin with

How to redeem rewards

The route (there's really only one) for turning earned BluChips into value.

🎁 IndiGo fares: Put BluChips toward an IndiGo flight booking, at a rate that tracks the live fare rather than a fixed conversion. Axis and IndiGo both stay silent on an official value, so we work off an internal estimate of 42 paise per BluChip. There's no statement-credit option and no way to transfer them out.

What your IndiGo BluChip are worth

What a point is actually worth varies by how you redeem it — this is where most cardholders lose value without realizing it.

IndiGo fares on the 6E app ₹0.42 per BluChip against IndiGo base fare; airline-only, and BluChips expire with account inactivity

₹ 0.42 /pt

The concern There's no published rupee value for an IndiGo BluChip — Axis doesn't set one and neither does IndiGo — and the only thing they buy is an IndiGo fare, priced against whatever the ticket costs at that moment. Since they can't be transferred or turned into cash, the card's real worth comes down entirely to how often and how well you use your own IndiGo bookings.

The bottom line

The value case is straightforward for a regular IndiGo flyer: the ₹799 fee is fully covered by the annual 1,200-BluChip voucher, the milestone ladder rewards consistent spending, and the BluChips themselves have obvious utility if you're already flying the airline. The catch is that BluChips are a closed currency with no fixed rate — we estimate 42 paise apiece, which puts the 3/2/1 earn rates at roughly 1.3%/0.8%/0.4% — and the fare you actually book determines your real return, with no way to move value to another airline or pull it out as cash. If flexible, everyday-value rewards matter more to you, look at a general rewards card instead; if you want more out of the IndiGo relationship, the IndiGo Axis Bank Premium is the step up.
