IDFC FIRST Select Credit Card
The IDFC FIRST Select is a lifetime-free card with lounge access, a low 1.99% forex markup and a 10X engine — a genuinely strong starting hand. The 2026 cuts trimmed it: the reward base moved from ₹150 to ₹200 per point (about 25% down), and from 18 June 2026 the old ₹20,000 spend tier was replaced by categories — 10 reward points per ₹200 (~1.25% at ₹0.25/point) on dining, travel and international spends from the first transaction, 3 per ₹200 on other spends and 1 per ₹200 on utilities/insurance/FASTag/railway. Domestic lounge access was halved to 1/quarter and spend-gated (₹20,000/month), though the railway lounge stays at 4/quarter, and the movie BOGO moved to District (once a calendar month, on ₹20,000 of prior-month spend). If you qualify for the FIRST Wealth, that supersedes it.

The concern The 2026 ~25% base cut and the halved, spend-gated lounge weaken it, and IDFC's own free FIRST Wealth undercuts it for higher-income applicants.
The bottom line
Select takes IDFC's no-fee approach a notch upmarket, pairing lounge visits, a comparatively low 1.99% forex charge and a 10X earn rate on dining, travel and international spending — all without an annual fee. It's lost a bit of its shine following the 2026 changes, with the per-point base sliding from ₹150 to ₹200 and lounge access both halved and tied to a spend threshold. Anyone who meets the income requirement for the free FIRST Wealth card would generally come out ahead choosing that one instead.

2026 6 changes — 5 cuts, 1 improvement
▼ Reward Observed 13 May 2026 · Effective 18 Jun 2026
Points get 24-month expiry + credit-limit earn cap
Points never expired; no per-cycle earn cap; movie BOGO ungated; 10X only on incremental spend above ₹20,000/cycle → 24-month expiry; credit-limit earn cap; movie BOGO needs ₹20k spend; 10X now category-based (dining/travel/international) from the first rupee
Reward points earned from the July 2026 statement cycle expire 24 months after being credited (previously lifetime-valid), and points accrue only on spends up to the assigned credit limit per billing cycle. The Buy-1-Get-1 movie benefit (up to ₹125) now needs ₹20,000 of prior-month spend to activate. The same revision replaced the ₹20,000 incremental spend tier with category-based earning: 10X now applies to dining, travel and international spends from the first transaction, 3X to other eligible spends, and 1X to utilities, insurance, railway and FASTag. The FIRST Select was confirmed among the affected cards, though IDFC did not publish a Select-specific dated notice.
