ICICI Bank Emeralde Credit Card (Metal)

Mid-tierFee variesRewardsTravelDining

The ICICI Emeralde (Metal) is ICICI's "almost-flagship" — 4 reward points per ₹100, unlimited domestic lounges with international Priority Pass, and a 2% forex markup, for a ₹12,000 fee waived at ₹10 lakh. It sits one rung below the invite-only Emeralde Private Metal. ICICI Reward Points are worth up to ~₹1 each on iShop and voucher redemptions and ₹0.40 against a statement, so the 4 RP/₹100 is best treated as ~4% via iShop, ~1.6% to statement; fuel, rent, cash and wallet loads earn nothing, and utility, insurance and government payments drop to 1 RP/₹100. Since Nov 2024 those categories also carry per-cycle spend caps — ₹80,000 of utility, ₹80,000 of insurance and ₹40,000 of grocery — and the BookMyShow benefit became spend-gated at ₹25,000 a quarter from Jan 2026. Solid for the ICICI customer who will clear the waiver and redeem via iShop; the Private Metal is the better card if you can get invited.

✕ Cons

  • Full value hinges on iShop redemption (~₹1/point) — statement value is ₹0.40/point (~1.6%)

  • The BookMyShow benefit now needs ₹25,000 of spend in the preceding quarter
  • No hotel-loyalty membership — the invite-only Emeralde Private Metal (Taj Epicure, 2% forex) is the stronger card if you can get it

Full calculator, every currency → The concern Value hinges on iShop redemption (statement value is ~1.6%), and the per-cycle caps on utility, insurance and grocery narrow the proposition versus the Private Metal.

The bottom line

This card earns its premium billing for someone who can realistically hit the ₹10 lakh waiver and redeem through iShop, where the 4 RP/₹100 rate approaches 4% in real value. The unlimited domestic lounge access and Priority Pass benefit are genuinely useful, and ICICI notably spares this card from the ₹75,000 quarterly spend gate that now restricts lounge access on much of its lineup. That said, the per-cycle limits on utility, insurance and grocery spend, plus the new BookMyShow spend requirement, have chipped away at its value — and the invite-only Private Metal, with its flat ~3% earn, 2% forex markup and Taj Epicure membership, is the better card for anyone who can secure an invitation.

Transport-category earning capped

Transport spends earned uncapped → Transport rewards capped at ₹20,000 per statement cycle

From 1 February 2026 ICICI capped the reward points earned on transport-category spends — rail, bus, taxi, tolls and similar — at ₹20,000 of spend per statement cycle on its Gemstone-tier cards. Spend above the cap still posts to the card, it simply stops earning. The cap is per statement cycle, not per month, so a long cycle does not buy extra headroom.

BookMyShow movie benefit becomes spend-gated

Complimentary → Requires ₹25,000 spend in previous quarter

With effect from 15 Jan 2026 the BookMyShow movie-ticket benefit is unlocked only if the cardholder spent at least ₹25,000 in the preceding quarter — a shift from an unconditional perk to a spend-gated one. ICICI's MITC illustrates the mechanic with the Apr–Jun 2026 quarter, which is why the change is often quoted as starting 1 Apr; the revision itself is dated 15 Jan 2026.

▼ Reward Observed 17 Dec 2025 · Effective 15 Jan 2026

Fuel, rent and wallet loads stripped of rewards

Fuel still earned reward points → Fuel, rent, cash and third-party wallet loads earn nothing

ICICI's January 2026 round confirmed that fuel, rent, cash and third-party wallet-load transactions earn no reward points on the Emeralde. Government and tax payments were NOT stripped on this card: ICICI's MITC bills government transactions as utility payments (a Feb 2024 change), so they continue to earn the reduced 1 reward point per ₹100 inside the utility cap. The outright government/tax exclusion applies to the Emeralde Private Metal, a separate product. Everyday retail continued to earn 4 RP per ₹100.

Reward caps, category exclusions and waiver-base cuts

Uncapped grocery/utility/insurance; broad waiver & milestone base → Grocery ₹40k/mo, utility+insurance ₹80k caps; rent/govt/education excluded from waiver & milestones

ICICI's system-wide November 2024 revision capped grocery earning at ₹40,000/month and utility+insurance at ₹80,000, stopped government transactions from earning points, and excluded rent, government and education spends from fee-waiver and milestone calculations. In the same round the Emeralde's fee-waiver bar was actually cut to ₹10 lakh (from ₹15 lakh) and the fuel-surcharge waiver capped at ₹1 lakh of fuel spend a year.

Rent and e-wallet loads stop earning points

Rent & e-wallet loads earned points → Rent & e-wallet loads excluded

From 5 Feb 2024 ICICI stopped awarding reward points on rent payments and e-wallet loading transactions across its cards, Emeralde included — the first post-launch category carve-out. Government transactions were folded into the utility-payment bucket, which continued to earn.

▼ Network Effective 2024

American Express variant withdrawn

Amex + Mastercard → Mastercard / Visa only

ICICI stopped issuing the American Express variant of the Emeralde (confirmed no longer issued by early 2024); the card continued on Mastercard and Visa. New applicants lost the Amex-only perks (e.g. the American Express TATA CLiQ voucher). No dated issuer notice was published, so the exact stop date is uncertain.

Emeralde earning migrated with the rest of the portfolio; point validity stayed 36 months.
