ICICI Bank Coral Credit Card
ICICI Coral is the bank's long-standing starter card — modest reward-point earning, a BookMyShow/INOX movie discount and a quarterly railway/airport lounge visit. It earns 2 ICICI Reward Points per ₹100 (~0.5% at about ₹0.25/point) and 1 RP per ₹100 on utilities and insurance, with a 1% HPCL fuel surcharge waiver; the ₹500 fee waives at ₹1.5 lakh. Since 15 Nov 2024 ICICI has also capped the spend that earns at all: ₹40,000 a statement cycle on utilities, ₹40,000 on insurance and ₹20,000 on groceries and departmental stores — 400 points each, then nothing. The 2026 devaluation reached even here: the movie discount is now gated behind ₹25,000 of quarterly spend, airport lounge access behind ₹75,000/quarter, and transport spends (MCC 4111/4112/4784/4131) capped at ₹10,000/month from Feb 2026 — thresholds the lighter spenders a starter card targets will struggle to clear (the railway lounge, 1/quarter, stays unconditional). ICICI's own free Amazon Pay card out-earns it for most people.

What your ICICI Reward Points are worth
Realistic value per point by redemption route — the difference is what most people leave on the table.
Statement credit BEST 1 RP = ₹0.40 against the statement — ICICI's only published rate
Amazon / Flipkart vouchers BEST Voucher store; ICICI publishes only an 'up to ₹1' ceiling, never a realised rate
iShop flights & hotels BEST iShop travel; rate is set per card at checkout, so the ₹1 ceiling is not a value
Air India Maharaja transfer Air India is ICICI's only transfer partner, and the ratio splits 6x by card: Emeralde Private Metal and Times Black convert 1:1 (⇒ ₹1/pt), every other eligible card 6:1 (⇒ ₹0.17/pt — worse than the ₹0.40 voucher route, so on those cards transferring destroys value). Min 2,000 points; credited in up to 5 working days.
✈ Transfer partners ✈ Air India Maharaja Club ( 6:1 ) Value your balance: ICICI Reward Points ✈ Air India Maharaja Club ( 6:1 ) ₹ 1,700 vs. typical redemption ₹ 4,000 Direct transfers from this card only, ranked by what a point is worth in the destination programme . Full calculator, every currency → The concern The headline movie and lounge benefits now require ₹25,000–₹75,000 of quarterly spend, so the lighter spenders this card targets may never trigger them; the base earn is just ~0.5%, and utility, insurance and grocery spend stops earning past ₹40k/₹40k/₹20k a statement cycle.
The bottom line
The Coral still works as a reasonable first card from ICICI, but the 2026 cuts locked its movie and lounge perks behind ₹25k and ₹75k quarterly spending thresholds — precisely the kind of spend a typical starter-card holder can't reliably guarantee. The base earn rate of 2 RP per ₹100 (about 0.5%) is unimpressive, the bill-payment categories that used to add value are now capped between ₹20k and ₹40k per cycle, and for most applicants the fee-free Amazon Pay ICICI card will simply earn more.

BookMyShow movie benefit becomes spend-gated
Ungated — 25% off up to ₹100 on BookMyShow and INOX, twice a month → Same discount, but requires ₹25,000 spend in the previous quarter
As part of ICICI's 2026 portfolio devaluation, from 1 Apr 2026 the Coral's BookMyShow and INOX offer — 25% off up to ₹100, twice a month; a discount, not a complimentary ticket — is unlocked only if the cardholder spent at least ₹25,000 in the preceding calendar quarter. It is the last of the card's marquee entry-level perks (movie + lounge) to move from unconditional to spend-gated.

Transport-category earning capped
Transport spends earned uncapped → Transport rewards capped at ₹10,000 per statement cycle
From 1 February 2026 ICICI capped the reward points earned on transport-category spends — rail, bus, taxi, tolls and similar — at ₹10,000 of spend per statement cycle on its mid- and entry-tier cards, half the ₹20,000 the Gemstone tier keeps. Spend above the cap still posts to the card, it simply stops earning. On a card whose earn rate is already thin, this is a further trim rather than a headline cut.

Airport lounge access gated behind ₹75,000/quarter spend
₹35,000/quarter spend (₹5,000 earlier) → ₹75,000/quarter spend
ICICI's system-wide November 2024 restructure more than doubled the spend needed to unlock the Coral's complimentary domestic airport lounge visit — from ₹35,000 in the previous quarter (itself raised from ₹5,000 in April 2024) to ₹75,000 — putting the perk out of reach for the light spenders the entry card targets. The 1 railway-lounge visit per quarter stayed unconditional.

Per-cycle earning caps on utility, insurance and grocery spend
Utility, insurance and grocery spend earned without limit → Utility ₹40,000 · insurance ₹40,000 · grocery & departmental ₹20,000 per cycle (400 RP each)
ICICI's MITC caps the SPEND that accrues reward points, not the points: from 15 Nov 2024 the Coral earns on only ₹40,000 of utility spend, ₹40,000 of insurance and ₹20,000 of grocery and departmental-store spend per statement cycle. At the Coral's rates (1 RP/₹100 on utility and insurance, 2 RP/₹100 retail) that is 400 reward points in each of the three buckets, after which the category earns nothing for the rest of the cycle. The same round excluded rent, government and education spends from fee-waiver and milestone calculations and limited the fuel-surcharge waiver to ₹50,000 of fuel spend per cycle.

ICICI Coral Credit Card introduced
Coral is the entry-level card in ICICI Bank's Gemstone Collection (Coral / Rubyx / Sapphiro / Emeralde), pitched at first-time and new-to-credit users: 2 ICICI Reward Points per ₹100 retail (1 RP on utilities/insurance), a 1% HPCL fuel-surcharge waiver, complimentary movie and quarterly railway/airport lounge benefits, and a ₹500 + GST fee waived at ₹1.5 lakh annual spend. Exact launch date is undocumented on any surviving issuer page, so the year is reconstructed (c. 2013 Gemstone rebrand).
