HSBC Premier World Mastercard

Super-premiumFee variesRewardsTravel

The HSBC Premier World Mastercard waives its ₹20,000 annual fee for Qualified HSBC Premier customers (the ₹12,000 joining fee applies post-activation) and pairs a class-leading 0.99% forex markup with unlimited domestic and international lounge access (1,400+ lounges, plus 8 guest visits) and ₹1 crore of travel insurance — with none of the spend-threshold games that clutter its rivals. It earns 3 reward points per ₹100 on eligible spends and up to 12X on travel booked through the HSBC Travel with Points portal, points never expire, and they transfer to about 20 airline and hotel partners (mostly 1:1). Note the April 2025 changes: eleven everyday categories (utilities, insurance, education, government, wallets, rent and more) now share a cumulative ₹1 lakh/month earn cap, and fuel no longer earns points. It will not out-earn an Infinia, but for a Premier customer the unlimited lounges, sub-1% forex and ₹1cr cover make it close to a no-brainer. The only real barrier is the banking relationship.

Should you get it?

Best for: HSBC Premier banking customers who travel internationally, Frequent flyers who want unlimited lounge access without a visit cap, Accor and Marriott collectors who want 1:1 hotel point transfers with a sub-1% forex card

Super Premium tier — built for high spenders who want top-end perks.

Strongest value if you spend heavily on Travel ( 36% back).

Frequent travellers benefit from the included airport lounge access.

✓ Pros

  • Unlimited LoungeKey international lounge access (plus 8 guest visits)
  • Class-leading 0.99% forex markup — one of India's lowest
  • Points never expire and transfer 1:1 to ~20 airline and hotel partners, including Accor ALL and Marriott Bonvoy
  • Up to 12X reward points on travel booked via the HSBC Travel with Points portal
  • Complimentary concierge and ₹1 crore travel insurance
  • Annual fee waived for Qualified HSBC Premier customers (only the ₹12,000 joining fee applies)

✕ Cons

  • Requires an HSBC Premier relationship (₹50L TRB for accounts opened from 1 Jan 2026, ₹40L grandfathered, or qualifying mortgage) — not a standalone application for most
  • Non-Premier applicants pay ₹12,000 joining / ₹20,000 renewal — hard to justify vs alternatives
  • The ₹12,000 joining fee applies even to Premier customers — only the annual/renewal fee is waived
  • Post-April-2025, eleven categories share a cumulative ₹1L/month earn cap and fuel no longer earns points

Airline / hotel transfer BEST The widest transfer menu of any Indian issuer — 20 partners (15 airlines, 5 hotels), no minimum and no cap. Premier and TravelOne convert at 1:1 on almost everything; Platinum and RuPay Platinum at roughly 2:1 — but NOT a uniform halving, United is 3:1. Best route is Accor ALL at 1:1 (≈₹2/pt), then Shangri-La: its 5:1 looks like the worst ratio here and returns ~₹1.28/pt, because a Shangri-La point is worth ~₹6.40. hsbc-taj is excluded — its points are a closed IHCL wallet that transfers nowhere.

Full calculator, every currency → The concern Requires an HSBC Premier relationship (qualifying TRB or mortgage) — not a standalone application for most. Post-April-2025 it also added monthly category caps and dropped fuel earning.

The bottom line

For anyone who already meets the HSBC Premier qualification, adding this card to the wallet is close to an automatic decision — the pairing of unlimited lounge access with a 0.99% forex markup (among the lowest in India) is uncommon at this level, and the relationship itself waives the annual fee, leaving only the ₹12,000 joining charge. Those applying without a Premier relationship, though, face a ₹12,000 joining fee and ₹20,000 renewal fee that's difficult to justify when weighed against other cards on the open market.

Fuel dropped and category caps added to the 3X earn

3 RP/₹100 on all spends, no exclusions → Fuel earns nothing; ~11 categories capped at ₹1,00,000/month

From 1 April 2025 fuel stopped earning Reward Points entirely, and a cumulative ₹1,00,000 monthly cap was applied to the 3X earn on utilities, insurance, tax, jewellery, money transfer, real estate, e-wallets, education/government and financial/non-financial institutions. HSBC had originally planned to exclude these categories outright but walked that back to caps before go-live, keeping only fuel fully excluded.
