HPCL ENERGIE BOBCARD Credit Card

Mid-tierFee variesRewardsFuel

The HPCL ENERGIE BOBCARD is a fuel co-brand built around one merchant. At eligible HPCL retail outlets — including LPG and the HP Pay app — it earns 24 reward points per ₹150 (~4% at ₹0.25/point), and adds a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on transactions between ₹400 and ₹5,000 (capped ₹100 a statement), which is where BOBCARD's "up to 5% savings" headline comes from. Both the accelerated points and the surcharge waiver apply only at HPCL outlets on the eligible merchant list that HPCL shares with BOBCARD — a restriction tightened with effect from 15 July 2026, so a pump outside that list earns nothing extra. Utility bills and departmental stores earn 10 RP per ₹150 (~1.7%), and everything else just 2 RP per ₹150 (~0.3%). Each accelerated tier is capped at 1,000 reward points a statement, so the 4% fuel rate stops at about ₹6,250 of HPCL spend a month. It is issued only on RuPay, so it links to UPI apps. Fees are ₹499 joining and ₹499 annual, waived at ₹50,000 of anniversary-year spend.

Should you get it?

Best for: Drivers loyal to HPCL pumps, Bank of Baroda customer wanting a fuel co-brand with UPI, Someone pairing a dedicated fuel card with a stronger everyday earner

Mid tier — a solid all-rounder for steady monthly spend.

Strongest value if you spend heavily on Fuel ( 4% back).

Frequent travellers benefit from the included airport lounge access.

✓ Pros

  • ~4% back at eligible HPCL outlets, plus a 1% HPCL fuel surcharge waiver
  • Quarterly domestic lounge access on a mid-fee card
  • UPI-linked RuPay — pay by scanning QR codes
  • Low ₹50,000 annual-spend waiver bar
  • No 1% fuel processing fee on large fuel transactions, unlike other BOBCARDs

✕ Cons

  • The 4% fuel rate and the surcharge waiver apply only at HPCL outlets on the eligible-merchant list
  • Accelerated points capped at 1,000 RP per statement — the fuel earn stops near ₹250/month
  • Base rate of 2 RP/₹150 (~0.3%) is very weak outside the bonus categories
  • Supermarkets, rent, government, education and utilities-adjacent MCCs earn nothing
  • 3.5% forex markup — not for international transactions

The concern Both the 4% earn and the surcharge waiver are gated to HPCL's eligible-outlet list (tightened 15 July 2026) and capped at 1,000 points a statement; everything off-brand earns ~0.3%. One documented conflict — BOB's MITC footnote says waiver-eligible fuel transactions do not earn reward points, while the HPCL page advertises the stacked 4% points + 1% waiver; the page is the card-specific benefit statement, and we track the next MITC revision.

The bottom line

This is a narrowly built fuel card that does one thing well: roughly 4% back at qualifying HPCL pumps plus a 1% surcharge waiver, with lounge access thrown in as a secondary perk. Move outside that use case and the numbers thin out fast — the base rate of 2 points per ₹150 (about 0.3%) ranks among the weakest on offer, and the 1,000-point statement cap effectively limits the fuel benefit to around ₹250 a month. In practice, how much this card is worth to you tracks almost exactly with how often you fill up at HPCL.

▼ Reward Observed 17 Jun 2026 · Effective 15 Jul 2026

Fuel rewards and surcharge waiver restricted to HPCL's eligible-outlet list

Accelerated 24 RP per ₹150 and 1% surcharge waiver at all HPCL fuel outlets → Only at HPCL outlets on the eligible merchant (MID/TID) list HPCL shares with BOBCARD; off-list pumps earn base rate with no waiver

BOBCARD tied both the ~4% accelerated reward rate and the 1% fuel surcharge waiver to a specific list of eligible HPCL fuel outlets (by MID/TID). A fill-up at an HPCL pump that is not on that list now earns only the base 2 RP per ₹150 and no surcharge waiver, narrowing the card's core value proposition to a subset of HPCL stations.

▼ Fee Effective 1 Apr 2026

Processing fees added on toll/bus, high-value rail and third-party education spends

None → 1% (toll/bus ≥₹5,000; rail ≥₹30,000; 3rd-party education apps — each max ₹5,000)

From 1 April 2026 BOBCARD applied a 1% processing fee across almost all its cards: on toll and bus (MCC 4784) spends of ₹5,000 or more, on railway bookings (MCC 4112) of ₹30,000 or more (capped ₹5,000), and on education-fee payments made through third-party apps such as CRED, Paytm, PhonePe and MobiKwik (capped ₹5,000).

2025 4 changes — 3 cuts, 1 improvement

▼ Fee Effective 1 Jul 2025

Finance charge raised to 3.75% per month

3.25% per month (39% p.a.) → 3.75% per month (45% p.a.)

Effective 1 July 2025 BOBCARD revised the monthly finance charge on carried balances and cash advances to 3.75% (45% a year) for all card variants except Eterna, Eterna FD and Tiara. This is the change behind the card's current 3.75%/month rate — it only applies if you revolve a balance or take a cash advance.

▼ Redemption Effective 1 Jul 2025

Minimum redemption raised to 1,000 points

Lower / no fixed minimum → 1,000 points minimum

Effective 1 July 2025 redeeming reward points against the statement balance requires a minimum of 1,000 points, applied across all BOBCARD credit-card variants — a small delay to when points become usable.

Verification: BOBCARD ↗ · Confidence: High

▲ Reward Effective 1 Jul 2025

Utility bill payments earn reward points again

No reward points on utility bills → Core reward points restored on utility bills

From 1 July 2025 BOBCARD restored core reward points on utility bill payments (MCC 4900 — electricity, gas, water) across all variants, partly reversing the July 2024 special-category cull that had zeroed them out. Earning is at the card's core base rate, not an accelerated rate.

Verification: BOBCARD ↗ · Confidence: High

▼ Lounge Effective 1 Jan 2025

Quarterly lounge access gated to ₹20,000/quarter spend

1 complimentary domestic lounge visit per quarter, no spend condition → 1 visit per quarter, requires ₹20,000 spend in the preceding calendar quarter (waived for the issuance quarter)

The card's one-per-quarter domestic lounge visit became conditional on spending ₹20,000 in the previous calendar quarter. The BOBCARD notice lists HPCL at the ₹20,000 tier (premium cards were set at ₹40,000). New cards keep the benefit unconditionally in their quarter of issuance.

2024 2 changes — 2 cuts

▼ Reward Effective 15 Jul 2024

Core reward points removed on special-category (Annexure-A) MCCs

Base 2 RP per ₹150 earned across most non-bonus spend → No reward points on Annexure-A special MCCs; the 24 RP/₹150 HPCL fuel rate (cap 1,000 RP/statement) retained

BOBCARD stopped awarding core reward points on a list of special merchant categories (Annexure A) — rent, utility/telecom MCCs, insurance, education, government, transport/toll, charity, fast food, supermarkets and convenience stores, and fuel bought outside HPCL. The HPCL ENERGIE card was named in the notice with its 24 RP per ₹150 HPCL-fuel rate (capped at 1,000 RP a statement) explicitly preserved, so only the weak base-earning categories lost points.

Verification: BOBCARD ↗ · Confidence: High

▼ Welcome Effective 15 Jul 2024

Welcome bonus cut from 2,000 to 500 reward points

2,000 bonus reward points (~₹500) on spends of ₹5,000 or more within 60 days → 500 reward points (~₹125) on spends of ₹5,000 within the first 60 days

The same 15 July 2024 BOBCARD revision reduced the HPCL ENERGIE welcome benefit from 2,000 bonus reward points to 500 reward points for the same ₹5,000-in-60-days spend threshold — about ₹375 less first-year value at ₹0.25 per point.

◆ Launch Effective May 2022

HPCL Bank of Baroda ENERGIE fuel co-brand launched

BOB Financial (now BOBCARD) and HPCL launched the ENERGIE co-branded fuel card in May 2022 on the RuPay network, making it UPI-linkable. At launch it earned 24 reward points per ₹150 (~4%) at HPCL outlets plus a 1% fuel surcharge waiver, 10 RP per ₹150 on utility and departmental spends, 2 RP per ₹150 elsewhere, four domestic lounge visits a year (one per quarter), and a 2,000-point welcome bonus, at a ₹499 joining/annual fee waivable on ₹50,000 of annual spend. (Early on the ENERGIE was also offered in a Visa variant; the co-brand later settled on RuPay-only, but a dated network-switch notice could not be sourced.)
