Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card

Mid-tierFee variesCashbackDining

The Amazon Pay ICICI card is still the most frictionless cashback card in the country and the top pick for beginners — lifetime-free, with 5% back on Amazon for Prime members (3% for non-Prime), 2% where you log in and pay with Amazon Pay at partner merchants such as BigBasket and Swiggy, and 1% on most other spends, all paid instantly as spendable Amazon Pay balance with nothing to manage. The catch in 2026 is the fine print: fuel, rent, EMIs, cash, education, tax payments, international, gold and silver earn nothing, and since 11 Oct 2025 nor do utility bills paid outside Amazon. January 2026 added transaction fees too (1% on wallet loads of ₹5,000 or more, 2% on skill-based gaming, 1% on transport transactions over ₹50,000). Still excellent — just no longer untouchable.

Should you get it?

Best for: Amazon Prime subscriber, Online grocery shopper (BigBasket), Frequent Amazon electronics buyer, First card for ICICI account holder

Entry tier — great for first-time and lower-spend users.

Strongest value if you spend heavily on Online Shopping ( 5% back).

✓ Pros

  • Amazon Prime members get 5% cashback on every Amazon purchase — a ₹6,000/month Amazon habit earns ₹3,600/year automatically
  • Cashback credited instantly to Amazon Pay balance — spend it on your next order the same day
  • 2% cashback at 100+ Amazon Pay partner merchants including BigBasket, Swiggy, and Uber

✕ Cons

  • Value is concentrated in Amazon ecosystem — if you shop equally on Flipkart, SBI Cashback earns more
  • Non-Prime members earn 3% on Amazon — still good, but the card is built for Prime subscribers
  • No lounge access or travel perks
  • Utility bills paid outside Amazon stopped earning on 11 Oct 2025 — a real gap for a "1% on everything" card

How to redeem rewards

Ways to convert what you earn into real value.

🎁 Amazon Pay Balance: Instant cashback credited to Amazon Pay — use on the very next Amazon order. (₹1.00/cashback rupee)

🎁 Amazon Pay Partner Merchants: Use Amazon Pay balance at Swiggy, Uber, BookMyShow, and 100+ partner merchants. (₹1.00/cashback rupee)

What your Cashback are worth

Realistic value per point by redemption route — the difference is what most people leave on the table.

Statement credit Direct cash adjustment — no conversion

₹ 1.00 /pt

The concern Cashback lands as Amazon Pay balance, not cash, and the exclusion list (fuel, rent, EMI, cash, education, tax, international, gold, and since Oct 2025 utility bills paid outside Amazon) is wider than the "unlimited cashback" marketing implies.

The bottom line

This card remains one of the simplest cashback options available in India — cashback lands instantly, there's no points system to navigate, and no fee to worry about, all on the shopping platform most Indians already use. Prime members in particular get outsized value, which is why it stays our top recommendation for a first credit card. The new 2026 fees and the expanding list of exclusions have taken some shine off it, but the fundamental value proposition still holds.

New wallet, gaming & transport transaction fees

No such fees → 1% wallet loads ≥₹5,000; 2% skill-based gaming; 1% transport >₹50,000

As part of ICICI's portfolio-wide 2026 revision, the card added a 1% fee on wallet-load transactions of ₹5,000 or more (MCC 6540), a 2% fee on skill-based gaming transactions (MCC 5816), and a 1% fee on any transport transaction exceeding ₹50,000 (MCC 4111/4112/4784/4131). All three thresholds are per transaction, not per month. Note the card remains exempt from the reward-side e-wallet-reload exclusion, so a wallet load still earns the 1% base — it just costs 1% to make.

Cashback exclusion list widened — education, international AND off-Amazon utilities

Near-universal 1% base earn → Education, international and utilities paid outside Amazon excluded; gold/silver, tax, fuel, rent, EMI and cash already were

Clauses 11 and 12 of ICICI's Amazon Pay card T&C add two exclusions with effect from 11 Oct 2025: education and international transactions earn no Reward Points, and — the change most coverage missed — utility transactions made OUTSIDE the Amazon platform earn nothing either. Clause 13 (fuel, gold, silver, any precious metal and any tax-related payment) and clause 17 (EMI, EMI-on-call and cash) restate exclusions that already applied, and rent went in June 2024. Two things survive: insurance premiums still earn the 1% base, and non-tax GOVERNMENT MCCs still earn, because this card is the MITC's named exception to the rule that reclassifies government spend as a utility payment. The 'unlimited cashback' proposition narrowed to Amazon, Amazon Pay checkout and a shrinking base.

Forex markup slashed 3.5% to 1.99%

3.50% → 1.99%

Alongside a 7-year partnership renewal, ICICI cut the foreign-currency markup from 3.5% to 1.99%, repositioning the no-fee card as usable for international/travel spends. The 5% Prime / 3% non-Prime core rates were left unchanged.

1% reward on rent → 0% on rent

Rent transactions stopped earning the 1% reward with a 30-day RBI-mandated notice; the same change also disabled the option to part-pay other purchases using Amazon Pay balance. Fuel surcharge waiver was unaffected.
